As usual there is plenty of Uni work to be done; the time has come to write various reports, the dreaded dissertation, and of course revise all the new info I have learnt about speech impairments, language disorders and professional practice.
On a more uplifting note, there is also loads of sailing stuff to occupy myself with.
On Wednesday I am attending a First Aid course, which should be much better than the usual dry, powerpoint presentation. I've heard we are going to be injecting each other with saline solution, stitching up pieces of meat and wrapping each other in bandages! I'm reading Steve Callahan's 'Adrift' at the moment, having been recommended it at the recent Sea Survival course I did with the Academy. So I should be well prepared should any incidents occur over the Christmas break (although I don't think I will be taught how to deal with food poisoning, which could be an issue if I have to get involved with cooking the Christmas dinner..). The following morning we get to tuck in to various kinds of freeze-dried food, and receive some much needed nutritional advice.
In terms of sailing, I have been out recently on the British Keelboat Academy's J/109, and spent last weekend planning for the New Year, while working on the sponsorship side of the campaign. Yesterday brought the annual 'fun race' at my home sailing club; unfortunately my Formula windsurf kit didn't really suit the Christmas tree course, so I spent my time trying to avoid foiling moths, RS400s and my mother in a 2.4m. It was nice to hear that many of the members enjoyed the Channel 4 documentary about the Academy trials.
Come 2012, I am really looking forward to getting some more training in with the Academy. Straight over x-mas I am in for a fitness test, so I hope spinning at the gym as paid off! Also in the first week of January we are covering meteorology and psychology. Can't wait to get out on the Figaro again...very jealous of the guys down in LGM, having seem Bombay's videos on youtube; looks like everyone is working very hard out there!
Merry Christmas
Lizzy
